The current king of sixes is Rohit Sharma, who over a long period of time, has consistently shown his ability to turn matches and set T20 records. Martin Guptil had a stellar career for his country, and his place in the top 10 seems assured for some time. The real kicker on this list is Suryakumar Yadav, with only 75 matches under his belt, he has already rocketed to 3rd on the list with plenty more big hitting to come from the Indian superstar.
Which country is the king of Most Sixes In T20 International Cricket?
The list also highlights which country provide the best T20 batsmen, with India, West Indies, England and Australia all providing two of the top 10, which gives you a great idea of the countries that have excelled in T20 cricket.
However, with India providing number 1 and number 3, and with Yadav having plenty of sixes to come, it is hard to go past India for the title of the kings of sixes. There is plenty to debate amongst cricket fans as to whether this translates to being the best team, with Australia the current T20 champions after winning the most recent tournament with a balanced squad of power hitters, innings builders and a bowling unit with multiple dangerous options.
Individual brilliance in the T20 game
Of the incredible individual match performances, the most T20 sixes in an innings belongs to little known Sahil Chuahan. The Estonian blasted 18 sixes in an innings against Cyprus. Chasing a good total of 194 for victory, Chuahan scored the fastest 100 in a T20i to record an unbeaten 144 of just 41 deliveries.
Other notable individual performances in T20i’s include Hazratullah Zazai of Afghanistan, with 16 sixes, and Finn Allen who blasted 16 sixes in an innings for New Zealand. In domestic competitions, Chris Gayle, one of the original master blasters, hit 18 sixes in an innings for Rangpur Riders and 17 sixes in an innings for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The best T20 match ever?
The record for sixes in one T20i match was set recently at Centurion in 2023, where South Africa and the West Indies combined for an incredible 35 sixes between them. In that match, the West Indies Johnson Charles smashed 11 sixes in his total of 118, and Quinton de Kock blasted 8 sixes in his century, with South Africa chasing down a huge West Indies total of 258 with an over to spare in what was one of the most memorable T20 internationals to date.
The future of T20
Who knows the kind of excitement we are in for in the future as the game continues to evolve. With exciting prodigies such as Sam Konstas from Australia, who is bringing the T20 style to test match cricket, and Vaibhav Suyavanshi, who at 13 became the youngest cricketer to be drafted in the IPL last year, who would want to be a bowler!
